Christchurch, June 8; The fact that up to May 19 4,481.727 bushels of wheat were returned as thrashed, an increase of 909,208 bushels over the April returns, indicates that tile crop will return about 5,000,000 bushels; this. with, the carry-over from last vear and the quantity purchased by the Government in Ausbralia, should provide sufficient for the year'a requirements. There is very little wheat offerinff, ond any that conies to hand is readily taken at the fixed prices. There is said to be a shortage of seed wiieat, indicating that a fairly large area is being sown. Oats aTe very firm, with very few offering, and the market is rising and firm. The quantity thrashed to May 19 was only 4,793,217 bushels, which is much, below noTmal requirements. During the first four months of this year 124,192 bushels of oats were imported. The potato market is still very dull. A fair quantity has been sold at ;£3 10s. at country stations, but few srrowers oar'e to accept less than .£4. and Kiost of the potatoes now being dug are being pitted. The onion market is now practically over for the season. No shipping business is being done, and for the local trade £1 10s. per ton is being pAT.
