UNLAWFULLY ON' TIACECOL'KSE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, June 8. From the evidence it appeared .that the Jockey Club had tolerated tho presence of bookmakers oil a certain part of the course near the scraping sheds, but the committee hail decided to clear them out, hence ihe charges. Harry Hulston, who said he had not made a bet since bookmakers were abolished, was fined XI, and charges against Thomas Barrett (who remarked ho was there, as the guest of the club, being a returned soldier"! and John '\X. Massoy were dismissed. • Edgar Nea.to, who was fined .£l. Admitted ho was a bookmaker, but alleged that Deled ive •Krnctzcr had appointed him a. sort of agent to keep back "the boys," who were told they could stay there so long as they did not move further up lo the grandstand.
