CITY APPEALS
CASES HEARD YESTERDAY

J 3O " 1 '' 1 is Captain Walker. Victor Leslio Robinson, drover who had appealed on several grounds, did not appear, and a letter stated that ho Tvould withdraw his appeal, which was thereupon formally dismissed. An appeal by Robert Campbell Reikes, B religious objector, was dismissed, and Reikes will be recommended for noncombatant service.
Kumara Charles Stockman, clerk, was granted leavo till Juno 27.
Tho appeal of Ernest William Rash, painter, who said that he had been discharged from the Twenty-first Reinforcements, was adjourned pending a report on the question of financial assistance. Reginald Cecil Robinson, storeman, Roseneath, whose appeal was on grounds of religion and hardship, had his case adjourned till tho first sitting after July 1.
Decision was reserved in the case of George James Sprkgins, Civil Sen-ant, for whom financial aid was recommended.
. Robert Charles Stewart, engineer, appealed on the ground of publio interest, and also stated that his parents were not in good health. He was given leave till June 27.
, Henry James Wilkinson, labourer, proved that ho was over age, and tho board allowed his appeal. Russell Weokes, military badge-maker, did not appear, and his appeal for two months' leave was dismissed.
Norman Aubrey Wilton, importer of scientific, apparatus, was given leave till July 25 to-enable him to reorganise bis business staff.
Leave till Juno 27 was granted Charles Steven Symonds, master butcher. Alva Shaw, wholesale merchant, appealed on the grounds of undue hardship and public interest, tjfc was said that Shaw had been medically examined and ordered to again present himself for, examination in six months' time.>»T.h<o board decided to reconsider the case at the first sitting after November 19..
Alexander William Scott, pastry 'cook, was given leave till July 20. Edmund Salter, ironmonger's assistant, who was said to bo medically unfit at present, will have his case brought up again in November. Joseph Hume Watt, jnn., clerk, did not appear, and his appeaL was struck out.
Mr. W. T. Young, secretary of the Seamen's Federation, sought exemption for Arthur Edmondson and William James Freeman, and exemption was granted, the men to remain at their present occupation. Walter Taylor, joiner and ship's carpenter, failed to appear, and the bqard struck the appeal out. Frederick Charles Bromley, ironmonger, whose caso had been adjourned . from June 1, was given leave till August 81.
Francis Toomey, farmer. Lower Hutt, was given leave till July 20. Edward. Toomey, farrier, Lower Hutt, who had lodged an appeal, was said to be in camp, and the appeal was dismissed.
Thomas Opie Tromayne, commercial traveller, appealed on the ground of undue hardship. His. case stands adjourned till a report is obtained respecting financial aid.
Walter "Onsworth, ttoreman, asked for three months' extension of time, and was given leave till July 25. The appeal of John: Campbell Lindsay Ewing, which was adjourned from .Time 1, was dismissed because the appellant failed to appear. Undue hardship and religious objection were urged by Arthur Robert Thomson, but as Thomson did not appear the appeal was struck out. The board gave its decision in the rase of F. C. Biddle, plumber, Newtown. The decision was to dismiss the appeal.
Decision in J. J. Qates's case was to adjourn the appeal sino die. Oates is a -transport baker. John Thomas Hall, farmer, was grant' 'ed an adjournment sino die. The board will resume on Monday. •
STUDENTS' AND TEACHERS' CASES

Dunedin, Juno 8. At the sitting of the Military Service Board to-day the cases of two medical students in their fifth and fourth year respectively wei-o adjourned sine die, fifteen medical students in tli'Sfr third year, some of whom are in camp, ivere recommended for indefinite leave, without pay, on condition that they completed, their course; The case of a Roman Catholic student was adjourned till a Teply had been received from the Minister, in the case of nnother student whose appeal stands adjourned. The appeals of Fathers Falconer and Kelly were adjourned sine die. James Fanning, a Christian Brother teacher, was granted conditional exemption. The chairman remarked that Christian Brother teachejs wero in exactly the samo position as education board teachers.
