iFOII SOLDIERS WITH LIABILITIES. '• The board which has been dealing Vitli applications by soldiersor recruits 'lor extra financial assistance to covor certain items of expenditure, such as rent,- interest, or insurance promiums; , .whilo they are on active Bervice, has dealt with' a pood number of cases, and the Whemo 13 rapidly getting into slmpo. Up to date, 1055 applications have been •received, of which 885 have been dealt with, and 170 are in hand. Of the number in hand about 100 have come in within the last day or two. Particulars ■ <of how the claims have been dealt with are available only up to May SI, when / the total was 803. Of this total 169 were declined or' withdrawn, 121 wero •deferred for • further information, and 510. wero granted. The bulk of the applications received up till' the present have come from men already in tW Expeditionary-Force, and from voluntary recruits. Somo of tho Applicants have been balloted m«n ; but Tery few of them have been balloted men who havo appealed to tho Military Service Boards on the ground of undue hardship.
