Wedding at the Basilica, Hill Street. Tho wedding took place quietly yesterday morning in tho Basilica of the Sacred .Heart, Hill Street, of Captain Bernard R. Lunkshoar, N.Z.E.F., son of Mr. W. J. Lankshear, of Wellington, to Miss Amy Gabrielhs Scllars, sixth daughter of Mr. Georgo J. Sellars, late of Christclmrch, but now of Wellington. Tho ceremony was performed by the Key. Father Dignau. Tho bride, who was given away by her father, wore cream gabardine, with a pretty hat to match, and carried a bouquot of violets and freesias. Miss Nellio Lankshear, who acted as bridesmaid, wore a gabardine costumo with a black hat, and also carried a bouquot of violets. Mr. Russell Lankshear, brother of tho bridegroom, was best man. After tho ceremony tho guests wero entertained at a wedding breakfast at Godber's, and later tho bride and bridegroom left by the Main Trunk express for the north, the termor travelling in a navy blue coat frock, with a pink velour hat. Captain Lankshear ■has only recently returned to Now Zealand from active service in Samoa. Egypt, and France, being invalided from tho latter country .through shell-shock. Dance In the Sydney Street Soldiers' Club. On Saturday evening a dance, arranged by tho committeo of the Soldiers' Club in ESydney Street, will be given for the Twenty-seventh Reinforcements. It is hoped that other soldiers will be able to attend also. Every arrangement is being made to sccuro a very enjoyable evening. Circulating Library for Soldiers. Miss Eothonberg, honorary librarian of tho Sydney Street Soldiers' Club, has been asked by tho camp authorities to organise, if possible, a circulating library for tho men in camp at Trentham. Owing to lessened tram facilities tho men now spend moro of their timo in camp than, formerly, and it was thought that a library would provide a pleasant change of'recreation for thoso who cared for reading, especially with tho winter at hand. The library will be for officers and men, and contributions of bound books in good order will bo gratefully received by Miss llothenberg, who has been given the use of the Soldiers' Club in Sydney Street by tho committee us a receiving and packing depot. Naturally tastes in the matter of literature are varied among so many men, and all kinds of books will be welcomed—histories, biographies, books of travel, novels, essays, poetry, philosophical works, etc., etc. Somo timo ago Miss R-othenberg was successful in organising a library, consisting of 500 books for tho ruon at Samoa, and she wishes to have an equal number at' least as a nucleus for this library. It is in a good cause is tho reflection that people can comfort themselves with when they grievo over parting with some treasured book friend. Tho ladies of Johnsonville have been working energetically for the Naval Dependants' Relief organisation, and have sent in to tho depot in Jervois Quay somo very useful .garments. Mrs. Finlay Bethune has announced her readiness to receive garments from the Johnjsonville district for .that object, and so < obviate a certain amount of ineonvemenco that must arise when tho depot is not in tho district. Yesterday further supplies of material and garments were sent to Johnsonville ready for making up by tho workers there. From the sale of her booklet, "A Comfortable Sock." Mrs. Jolly has now handed to the Y.M.C.A. MO for the benefit of wounded soldiers, and hopes to raise at least another .£2O, since the booklet— which is on sale at the leading drapers of Cuba Street and Lambton Quay-is still meeting a good demand. Tho hundred and twenty-fifth meeting of tho Richmond Free Kindergarten Council was held this week. Those preeent were:—Mrs. Gill (in the chair), Mesdames H. Smith, Moran, Dixon,Clark, Anderson, M'Kenzie, Misses Ivng-.j land, Hclyer, Stowe, and Seaton. Miss Riley reported that the examination ot probationers took place at the end of tho last term, all tho students passing satisfactorily. • A most useful gift of a box of soap was received from Mr. Hancox. Tho council wishes to remind friends who have collecting-cards that they shonld be sent in- as soon as-pos-sible in order that the amount donated towards the Building Fund may be definitely known. ' lho war-work branch of tho Plunket • Society has established a splendid record of service during the past year, states the Auckland "Herald." This special activity is carried on by a few members and friends, who make up babies ■ garments, Which are sent to England for distribution among needy mothers. According to tho society's annual report, the Auckland branch during the year 1915-16 sent awsy nearly 800 flannel and woollen garments, mostly all handknitted and hand-sewn., lho grand total since the war began is 11,000 articles. The clothing has been distributed by Ladv French to all parts of England and Scotland, and many letters of appreciation have been received from the recipients, many of whom are tho wives or widows of soldiers and sailors.
Soldiors' Entertainment in tho Town Hall The dances which are Riven by tho Mayoress and her Entertainment Committee- for the different reinforcements each month appear to l>o growing mora and moro popular as timo Roes on, judging by tho increasing number of soldiers who attend them. That which, was given last evening for tho Twontysovcuth Reinforcements in tho Town Hall was most successful, and n very largo number of tlio men were present, including several of the mounted'men'from' tho Wairarapa who happened to arrivo in town on leave. Somo sailors also wero present, and dancing occupied tho greater Sortion of tho evening, tho Trqntham and and Mrs. 1.0 Mtirclmnd providing tho music. A brief musical programme, arranged by Miss Emily Segriof, was contributed to by Miss Heincmann, with a violin solo, Hiss Simpson fluto solo, and Miss Mina Caldow songs. Theso wero very much enjoyed. Supper was provided by the Entertainmont Committee, in charge of Mrs. Moor'honse, Mrs. 11. jlyors, Sirs. Brice. Mrs.-' Townscnd, Mrs. Murphy, Mrs. Daley, Miss Clarke, and manv other helpers. Earlier in the evening tho bandsmen from Trentham were n-s usual entertained at tea. Tho stage had been prettily decorated with flowers and palms, also tho buffets underneath the gallery. 'IV Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) and tho. Mayoress welcomed the soldiers and assisted in various ways during the evening. '
Her Excellency the Countess of Liverpool open 'The Spinneryy" in Willis Street, next Monday afternoon. Mrs. Steele has kindly given up one of tho rooms in her house for this.work, which is somewhat new to Yfsflitigton, having been introduced by the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Navy League only a short timo ago. Yesterday morning tho marriage took place very quietly in St. John's Church of Mr. T. W. Leslie, custodian of tV Town Hall, to Mrs. Turfis, of Onmaru'. The Rev. Dr. Clibb performed tho ceremony. The Mayoress has received a mandolin from Mrs. Lo Marchand for the men of G Company, 26th- Platoon, Twentyeighth Reinforcements, in answer to {lie request that was ma.do for one a couple of days ago.
