"MEDICAL BOARDING"
POINT BEFORE MILITARY BOARD. An interesting point concerning tho "medical boarding" of men ' drawn in the military ballots -was discussed at the Military Service Board on Tuesday. Eric T. Ferguson, printer and stationer's assistant, appealed on the ground of undue hardship.' He attached ,v medical certificate to the effect that he was not fit for active service. Mr. M. Myers, who appeared as counsel for Ferguson, said that when the appellant had been before the Medical Board he had failed to give that board certain necessary information concerning ] his unfitness. It was useless sending a man to camp to have him rejected almost immediately. He suggested that the matter should bo referred back to the Medical Board to have the appellant medically re-boarded. Mr! D. M'Laren (a, member of the board): This board can hardly set itself up as a judge of physical fitness. ... • Mr. Myers: I am not asking you to do that. The Chairman (Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M.): He is merely asking us to refer the matter back to the Medical Board. Mr. Myers: That is all. .-.-■. The Chairman: The trouble is I don't know that the Medical Board would take' any notice of our reference.
ilr. Myers: Well, it is useless sending the man to camp. The Chairman: Mr. M'Laren has made what we think is a good suggestion. He suggests that you should make the request: that -voui should write to the Medical Board yourself. Mr. Myers: I am prepared to do that.' The Chairman: We dbnit care to do it.' We have already been snubbed through their takine- no notice of us. Captain Walker said the communication would have to go through the Director of Recruiting. .' The appeal was adjourned for a week.
