( . AUCKLAND MEETING / GLUEPOT WINS BIG STEEPLE- \ CHASE. By Telegraph Special Correspondent. Auckland, June 4. The Auckland Racing Cluo's Steeple-*, chase Meeting was continued to-day. Th» weather was line, but dull. There wass,.. a large attendance. The going wasj '-, heavy. Tjie totalisator handled JC'53,475j : jj against iM3,757 last year.' ' '.i> The weather, was lino but threatening, '•. for the second day of the Auckland ltac- , ■' ing Club's Winter -Meeting. The going;" was decidedly heavy, and last times irewj out of the question. There was a largo, attendance. . . ■
Bon lteve, Tararu Jack, Marconi, and/' Hylaus were most favoured lor the. Reniuera Hurdles. On Saturdays racing Tararu .hick's chances appeared to be the best. When the iield settled down. '.IV Onga went to the front, closely followed; by Marconi, Tararu Jack, and Luperinu..! Crown Pearl fell about half a mile from.' home, and Tararu Jack came' down at the last hurdle. Luperino headed 'IV, Onga entering the straight, and won by ; - a clear length. It is rather surprising' that Luperino did not receive better sup-, port from the public, in view of his .. \vondale performance when ho defeated. Te (Jngii rather decisively. Hylaus jumped disappointingly, and was never really in the race. ..,««.' The most favoured horses in the Great Northern Steeplechase were El Gallo, Moreeambe, anu Waimai. LI Gallo woulor probably have stood out on liis own iit public favour but for the fact that C. Scott, who usually rides him, met with an. accident in training/work. Traill was to have ridden him to-day, but he, too t hud an'accident, breaking his arm whenriding Crown Pearl in tho Kemucra 1 Hurdles. His place was taken by M'Seveny. Morecambe was first to show ont prominently, with Biavolo handy and 1 Troublesome well to the rear. The race was robbed of considerable interest by the series of accidents. El Gallo was tbe> first to fall, Morecambe co'iuing down , soou afterwards. In the end only fivu horses finished. Dinvolo was in command for more than half the distance. Cluepot ran a line race, being always within striking distance. Half a mile from home Troublesome began to move to the front,. and was in the front division at tho last hurdle, but eould not get on with Gluepot, who won comfortably. The, public seemed to have overlooked the , ; winner's running at Wanganui and Avon-, dale, judging by tho comparatively email; support he received, but it is qmtc_pos-; sible that if Jilorccamlre and El Gallop had stood' up the Tesult would have teen different. , , ~ . l The Prince of AVales Handicap fell to; Bedford who finished second in great; stylo in the Members' Handicap on Sat-; urday. ' Hushhian was in the lead until: the entrance to tho straight, when Lcil-i ford and R*d Ribbon sorted themselves! out fron> the rest, the former securing! tho vm'iet with something to spare,. Kauri King being a good third. THE RESULTS. By Telesraph—Press Association. HUNT CLUB CUP STEEPLECHASE, of 200 sovs. About three miles. 1 Timroto, list. 21b.
