« — THE RUGBY GAME T'ETONE BEATS COLLEGE. At Athletic Park on Saturday Petone [lofealed Wellington Collego by 25 points to 9. The game was interesting and attractive. Tho work of both teams was good, and thero was not a great deal between them. Wellington College led in tho first spell, when Nicholls scored two tries and Scott kicked a penalty goal for them.' Against theso nino points Petono registered only tlirco, a try by Cowie. Tho Collego team did not incroaso their 6coro 'in tho second half, but Potone added a do7.cn points—two tries by NicholLs, a try by Bowers, and a goal by Coles from a mark. SOLDIERS V. WELLINGTON. A Wellington team mot and defeated a team of Engineers from the camps. For Wellington, Lonnon, Eberliardt, Shearer, and Salisbury scored tries. For tho Engineers. Winn and Desmond scored tries, and Desmond converted a try. Tho result was: Wellington, 12; Engineers, S, Fifth Class. Scots College v. St. Jolm'6.—.St. John's won by 6 points to 5. Second Grade. Oriental v. St. John's. —Oriental met St. John's at Kilbirnie, and succeeded in defeating them by 31 points to nil. For the winners tries TreTo scored by Dunlop and Gowdy, Gowdy'a try being converted by BraytoD. who also kicked a penalty goal. This is the first defeat St. John's hav« suffered tnis season. Mr.' A. if. Hunt <vas refcrco. ASSOCIATION. MATCHES ON SATURDAY. Very fine football weather was again experienced for tho Association football matches on Saturday. Following were the results of matches:— Third Giade. Tho town match was played at Duppa Street between Y.M.C.A. and Institute, and resulted in a win for tho latter by 3 goals to two. Tho match was a hardly-contested and fast one throughout. Instituto were heavier than Y.M.C.A., and during the whole game practically kept tho ball in tho Y.M.C.A. half. _ Mr. B. Hill refereed. Marist visited Johnsonville, where they played Johnsonville. The match was a fast one, but Marist proved tlie better team of tho two, and won by fi points to nil. Mr. J. Duffy refereed. Fourth Grade. The match l>etwcen Y.M.C.A. A v Institute B, at Duppa Street, resulted in u. win for tho former by i jjoals to nil. Kilbivnio beat Y.M.C.A. B by 4 goals to 2. _ Marist defeated Johnsonville, at Johnsonville, by 2 goals to nil. Empire won by 3 goala to 1. Goals were scored by Pear™ (2), Daly (1), and for Institute, Smith (1). Fifth B Grade. Instituto defeated Marist at Duppa Street by •{ goala to 1. Island Bay defeated Wadestoivii tit Anderson Park by 3 goals to I. Mr. A. Williams, secretary of tho Management Committoo at AVellington, received telegraphic advico on Saturday to say that the match played at Christchurch between Christchurclv and Thorndon (Wellington) resulted in a win for lite former by 1 goals to 1. Tho Thorndon boys played tho samo day as they trrived in Christchurch.
