ANTI-MILITARISTS IN THE STATES
, GERMAN AGENTS AT WORK. New York, June 1. Soldiers invaded a meeting of 13,000 foreigners in Madison Square "Gardens and arrested eight persons who were distributing, anti-military literature, fhe "New York Herald" says that the aot amounted practically to martial-law. Anti-eonscriptionista were arrested at Kansas City and 'l'opeka. Washington officials attribute the anti-conscriptionist movement to Socialists, the 1.W.W., and pro-Germans. An official states that hundreds of German women are under surveillance. Many are known to be in the pay of Germany. Anti-militarist doouments have been seized. It is stated that there is a collegian anti-militarist league, with branches at most of the leading universities in the East and Middle West. Armed police now attend the Socialist and I.W.W. meetings. Tho authorities are determined to suppress any attempt to hinder enlistment, and an order lias been issued prohibiting eligible men leaving the United States — Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
