BOYS' INSTITUTE
At,the last Management Committee meeting of the Wellington. Boys' Institute the committee took the opportunity of bidding farewell and God speed to yet another of their members, in Mr. H. Y. Blair.
During tho past month no fewer than 2081 boys' passed through the institute, and were supervised and instructed in classes. During the month the boys gained thirty-two Royal Life-Saving certificates, sixteen, elementary, and sixteen, proficiency. Never has the institute been stronger at Soccer. No fewer than nino teams, comprising ninety-nine boys, are in the field every Saturday, and
judging by tlto increasing nnmbers of players, one or two new teams will , be entered soon. The Scoute aro making spolndid progress. At present over forty-fivo boys are studying ambulance, not to mention the signalling, hammock work classes, etc. A physical drill class for boys under twelve is held overy week, over forty boys attending. Tho intermediate and senior gymnastic classes are attended with enthusiasm !>y tho members and tho senior wrestling class is taken every advantage of, tho boys enjoying tho bouts. The Dtudi and ITifo Band still continues to mako good progress Tho institute orchestra is onco agaiii in full swing, and will give u, concort in about a month's time. The games room is taken overy advantage of, the boys thoroughly enjoying the games provided; the samo applies to tho library, whero tho magaines aro keenly read, and the librarian of tho lending department cannot complain that the books aro not (aken home. Tho Institute Cadets bid fair to becomo ono of tlio leading companies in tho city, their numbers aro greater than ever (over one hundred and fifteen membere), and their efficiency is in tho capable hands of Lieutenant Duttcn.
