AUSTRIA'S PEACE DESIRES
INDEPENDENCE FOR SMALL . STATES. Copenhagen, May 31. The Austrian Socialist delegation at Stockholm has issued a statement asserting that the Austrians want peace without annexations or compensations, and also giving independence to Belgium, Serbia, Montenegro, Finland, and Russian Polaud. Tho settlement of the Balkans must be left to tho populations of the Balkan countries, while the Poles in Galicia and Prussia ayill be autonomous within the Austrian and German Empires.—A-us.-N.Z.
