SUBMARINE PIRATES' CRUELTY
A CREW'S FEARFUL SUFFERING NINE DAYS IN THE BITTER COLD „ , , ~ London, May 31. Before the Alnirick Caetlo was torpedoed on March 19 she picked up the crew of the torpedoed steamer Trcvos, whose sufferings for nine days in the bitter cold are narrated in aii engineer's diary. On the third day the cuief cook died from exposure, and the storekeeper went mad. On the fourth day the boatswain and a passenger died, and on the fifth throe more died. On the eixth day a cattleman jumped overboard and waa drowned, and on the seventh day two men died of thirst and exposure. \nr other man died on the ninth day. Jhe survivors were landed suffering terribly from frostbitten feet, their toe 3 dropping off. One man succumbed, and a baby, which had been saved by the sacrifices of the others, subsequently died from meningitis.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
