MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of t.ho Wellington Education Bonn! was held yesterday. There wero piesent tho Hon. J. G. AV. Aitkon (chairman), Messrs. A. AV. Hog};, E. P. Rishworth, E. 11. Penny, AV. Allan, R. A. AVright, AV. 11. Field, T. l.'orsyth, A. Mnckay, O. Luwlon, and .1. Xobbell. A letter was received from tho Minister of Defcnco intimating that teachers unfit for active service would be left in their .employment as tciichers.—Tho Wwl considered this satisfactory. The National Efficiency Board circular suggesting an alteration in holiday* to allow of tho employment of senior pupils in a longer summer vacation was received. The chairman pointed out that tho arrangement of holidavs was not a function of the Wrd, and that therefore the letter did not apply to t.ho "board. Ho believed, however,'that tho board was in sympathy with the suggestion. Tho Department advised that it had been decided to revert to the former practice of granting senior freo places in .schools on the nomination of principals, subject to the recommendation of (he Inspector of Schools. Tho chairman said that this scheme had tho approval of Mr. Vleming, and could be sately accepted by tho board. A letter was received from the Department covering some remarks on the low standard of blackboard drawing among teachers lately examined for their certificates, and stating that exhibitions of blackboard drawing .would be made in tho centres of tho district.—The chairman said that tho Department's criticism of tho blackWrd drawing of teachers was not justified, for tho reason that tho tonchers who had lately gone up for thoir certificates were teachers from tho backblocks districts who had no opportunity of getting instruction. Nor would .these teachers benefit by Midi exhibitions in AVellington. 'Masterbon, or other similar centres, because they would never see the exhibitions. In tho centres, in tho training college, and in tho occasional "schools" for teachers instruction wae givon, and he was informed that .the criticism would not apply to the general body of teachers who had received regular instruction in drawing. It was decided to defer the making of another appeal to the Government regarding accommodation for t.ho AVellington Technical School nntil tho return of the two principal. Ministers of the Government, now on their way back, to New Zealand. A report was received from the Director of the Technical College re proposed regulations for free industrial education. It was decided to refer the matter to a committeo to consist of the members of the board who are representatives of the board on the Technical School Board. An application was received for tho establishment of a school at liarcpoti. Tho secretary reported that thero was a closed school at Akatarawa, and there was a proposal that the Akatarawa school building should bo moved some iivo or six miles to Knrapoti. It was decided to authorise tho establishment of a school at ICarapoti, and to leave to tho officers of tho hoard decision of the question of whether this should bo done by the removal of tho Akatanuvii. building or otherwise. It. .was admitted by members that the Akatarawa School would not bo opened again.
