PAYMENT OP DUES BY TRANSPORTS. A recommendation of tho Standing Committ«e at last Friday's meetinc of the Otago (Dunedin) Har.bpur Board was that the Harbours Association bo ui'Eed to continue their representations to the Government relative to the payment of (lues by transports. Mr. Tapley said thi-s was going to be a matter affecting the revenue of the harbour seriously. The British Government had met tho harbour hoards liberally in tho Old Country, and the boards should endeavour to get the same treatment from the Now Zealand Government. He moved that there be an addition to the report—that the local members of Parliament bo asked to assist the board ae far as possible i-u this matter. Tho chairman said tho board's grievance was that transports coming to Dunedin and bringing a certain amouut of cargo paid on the proportion of cargo they carried, lait did not pay any ship dues. Tho board thought they should pay these dues-other-wise the port suffered, and the revenue must toll. Mr. Galbraith taid that the Imperial Government paid even on the warships. The motion was carried. After a special trip up the coast to Gishorne aud Napier, tho Tainui is expected here to-morrow from Nepjer. She will sail again to-morrow for Lyttelton. Mr. H. W. Townscnd has joined the Muraroa as third mato. Owing to her late arrml and the bad ■weathor yesterday, the departure of tho Oalin for Wanganui has been postponsd until to-day. It is not yet certain whether tho "vessel will call at Wellington on her way from Wanganui to South Island ports. From Pclorus Sounds and Havclock. the Blenheim is duo on Friday. The vessel will remain in port over the week-end and Monday, which will eleo ho a holiday, and •will lcavo on Tuesday next for Waitara, A specie, alteration in -view of the King's Birthday on Juno 4 is announced for tho Bar.Tn-a in tho New Plymouth-Onehunea running. Sho will now leave Onchnnsra on Tuesday next and New Plymouth on Wednesday, instead of on Monday and Tuesday reapcctiTcly. No definite adrico has yet been received about the Defondcr, but Bhe ie eupppscd to have loaded a careo of timber at Hokitika, and' is expected iu Wellington tomorrow or on Friday.
