SHOET LIST OF POLICE CASES,
Mr. L. G. Heid, S.M., presided at the Magistrate's Court yesterday. William Farrow, an old,\offender, wae charged with boing an incorrigible rogue, having been found begging alms in. Lambton Quay on May 26, and John Hiley was similarly charged. It .appears that Farrow accosted a soldier and asked for money. Hiley was with Farrow n.t the time. The soldier refused to give them money, but purchased some food for thorn. Tho records of the two men wore found to ' be bad, and they we're convicted and sentenced to 14 days' imprisonmont each. 'Henry Edwards was seen by DetectiveSergeant Andrews wheeling a bicycle up Tory Street. Edwards was never known to possess a bicycle, and this made the detective curious. . When questioned, Edwards wae unable to give a satisfactory reply. First he said the macluno belongod to bis brother-in-law and he was taking it back to him, but he was unable to furnish the detective with tho brother-in-law's name. Later lie stated tho bicyclo had beon stolen, by another man, who, bocoming scared, left tho machine in the street, and he (EdwaTds) picked it up. The Magistrate recorded a conviction and fined tho accused .£3, in- default 21 days' imprisonment. For insobriety, Annabolla Swanson was fined 203;, in default seven days' imprisonment. / Pour first offenders were convicted and discharged. Patrick Leahy, a soldier who was discharged from the force on May 8, was found wearing a military uniform ten davs later, lie not being entitled to do so. Leahy, who was scarcely in a condition to plead, was remanded for a. week for medical treatment. John Duncan watt fined 10e., iiv default three days' imprisonment, for committing a grossly indecent act in. 'Arthur Street, and for resisting a constable and causing damage to the latter's trousers ho was fined 305., in', default seven daye in gaol. . For committing a gTossly indecent act in Lome Street, Alfrcfl 6. Gunson was penalised iu the sum of 205., in default seven days' imprisonment. John Archibald, an eighteen-year-old lad, driver of a two-horso dray, was charged by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, for whom Mr. E.' H. Webb appeared, with cruelly ill-treating the horses. According to the evidence tho lad was engaged in carting brewers' wet grain to Wadestown.- One horse was suffering from , sulebono and the other from sores, and the load was far too heavy for the aniniala. The accused pleaded guilty, and was fined 20s. and. costs, 283. MAINTENANCE CASK. Milly Kichards, for whom Mv. H. F. O'Leary appeared, applied for a separation order from her husband; George JRichard;, and for maintenance. After hearing the evidenco tho Magistrate granted a ecparatian order, custody of the three children, and maintenance at tho Tate of 30s. per week. Mr. P. W. Jackson appeared for defendant. . ■
