White, of Petonc, for tho second year in succession, was on view at Saturday's meeting, and was greatly admired. There aro signs of an increased interest in ladder matches, Mr. Purchas having jii6t taken rung. 5 from Mr. Fouhy, -while.Mr. White has captured rung 13 from s Mr. Tanner. Three challenges were issued last week, viz., Still v. \V. Mackay (rung 2), I'urichas v. Kelling (rung A), aud White v. Tyer (rung 12). On the motion of ilr. White it was decided to approach tho other local clubs with a view to holding an All-Wellington Patriotic Tournament (handicap) in about three months' time. These patriotic tourneys hava proved very successful in several Australasian centres, invariably attracting a 'large number of competitors, whoso entrance fees are handed to some local patriotic fund. As the Canterbury. and Otago clubs are anxious to again try conclusions by telegraph with the Wellington Club the prospects of an interesting season seem assured.
A hearty voto of thanks to last year's officers nn<l a similar tribute ,lo the chairman closed a very successful meeting. i
