Sailors' Friend Society. ' Mr. T. B. Macfarlane ananged the concert given at tho Sailois' Friend Society on Thursday. Each of tho performers met with a very hearty reception. A. feature of tho evening was the glees by the Lyric Four. Thoso who helped were:—The Mesdames Macfarlane and J. A. Renner, .and Misses Chapman, Jacobson, J. Soarle.-D. Jones, and M. Jones, and Messrs. .lames, Scarlc, and Fionctto, <-.nd Captain Macfarlane, and Master R. Soarle. Captain and Mrs. V. H. Barr (Nelson) aro visiting Pabnerston North. The first acknowledgment from prisoners of war in Germany to whom parcols were- sent for Christmas has been received by Mrs. Guuson, in her capacity a*' president of the Auckland Women s Patriotic League (stales un exchange). The acknowledgment, a post-card from a prisonor of war at Baden, is as follows: —"I bug to acknowledge your parcel, dated October •!, 1910, with thanks from Private A. S. Mbnteith."
