FOR MEN OF THE GRAND FLEET
N.Z. GIFTS TO iTHE WOL'NDED AND INVALIDS.
■ The IJnder-Secretavy of the Department of internal" Affairs (Mr. J. Hislop) has received advice from the High Commissioner that the sum of .£156 25., contributed through The Dominion on July 10 last, has been paid over to the Grand Fleet Fund, of which Commodore Halsey is the treasurer. This fund deals specially with the assistance of invalided and wounded men from the Grand Meet, and is therefore in a position to deal with the money in the direction intended by the kind subscribers. The hon. secretary of the Grand Fleet in forwarding a receipt attaches the following copies of letters from Admiral Beattie and Commodore Halsey to the High' Commissioner for the information of subscribers :—
H.M.S. Iron Duke, " December G, 191 C. Dear Sir Thomas, —The captain of the fleet has informed me of the exceedingly generous gift which has been mnde to the Grand Fleet Fund by the people of New Zealand. 1 am touched by this very practical evidence of the sympathy which exists between our fellow countrymen beyond the seas and tho Navy. I am informing the fleet of the magnificent donation which is being made for their b&nefil', and on their behalf I thank the, donors very much. Yours sincerely, (Signed) DAVID BEATTY. Admiralty, S.W., December 9, i9lti. Jly Dear Sir Thomas,—l have to-day received from my successor as the captain of the fleet a letter dated December 1, informing me that an amount, to the value of J246i8 Oa. *<!., has been allocated to the Grand i'leet Fund. An official receipt will be sent, but as president of the hind 1 desire to express to you, on behalf of the officers and men of the ileet, my most sincere thanks for the very generous subscription to the fund, which will eventually be spent in the relief of those men of the Navy who are incapacitated during the war. ... I trust you will convey the very grateful thanks of tho fleet to the Dominion of New Zealand for their generosity.—Believe me, youvs very truly, (Signed) LIONEL HALSBY, Commodore.
