CONSCRIPTION OF ALIEN LABOUR
FAEMEBS' UNION VIEWS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, May 21. As- an outcome of criticism by Mr. Arthur Oillies, expert adviser to the National Efficiency Comuiissionere regarding the Farmers' Union Conference resolution advocating the conscription of alien, labour, the conference to-day passed .tho following resolution :— "That this conference wishes it distinctly to bo understood that in passing the remit with regard .to the conscription of alien labour we had no thought or desire to obtain cheap labour for our farms. Our recommendation was that this labour should be used for national purposes. It was further added that the' labour eo conscripted.should be placed ai the disposal of the National Efficiency Board."
It was resolved that tho alleged action of the American Meat Trust in New Zealand should lie a matter for consideration by the incoming executive, and tba* means lie taken to combat it. , The conference rejected a proposal'tnat tho union constitution bo amended in the direction of allowing participatiou in politics.
