.tha fortnightly meeting of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was hold last evening, Mr. F. Meadowcroft presiding. The inspector reported that ho had successfully dealt with eight cases of cruelty to animals and two men ■wero to bo prosecuted on charges of cruelty. Subscriptions for the two -weeks ending May 22 were acknowledged as follow:— Bristol Piano Co. and N.Z. Express Co., 10s. Cd. each; Mr. D. Kidston, 10s.; Mr. C. A. Ewen, 65.; Mesdames Hiley, Barber, Miss Chalmers, Dr. Martin, Messrs. W. S. La Trobe, J. G. Harknoss, Chas. Haines, J. B. Findlay, B. C. Kirk, W. Crichton, Wright, Dixon and Witt, Eeid and Eeid, Van Staveren Bros., Brodrick and Co., P. Douoghue, Meek and Von Haast, G. Mee, A. Gray, K.C., Fullers' Pictures, Uayward Pictures, N.Z. Poultry Industries, ss. each; Mr. C. Catliie, 49.; Messrs. 11. D. Edwards, H. E. Shacklock, Preston, W. Fielding, J. ICellow and Son, C. and G. Aldous, P. Hodgkins, ,L M'Leod, Kosher Meat Co., 1.C., Mid Two Friends, 2s. Ikl. each; Miss Gruar and Mr. W. A. Bowring, 2s. each; total, Ono firm in Wellington bad, it was alleged, refused to give, their animal subscription owing to their receiving a warning from the society. It was decided to make some inriuiriii regarding the matter, and lo again -write to the firm in question.
