MASTERTON NOTES
The proposal of tho Masterton County Countil to erect a toll-gate- on the road between Jlasterton and Castlcpoint is meeting with vigorous opposition. At a meeting of tlie Masterton Chamber of Commerce, « resolution was passed protesting to tho Minister of Internal Affairs against; the proposal. A patriotic shop is to l>o opened ia Jlasterton on June 2. It will be conducted each week by representatives of different parts of the district. A Mnsterton buyer states that the prico of stock in the Wairarapa during the past season has been much higher than the schedule of (ho Imperial authorities warranted, lie anticipates ii much lower basis of buying for next season. The Wellington Farmers' Meat Company has declined to allow any of its space to bo devoted to tho elorago of dairy produce. ' A scheme has been submitted for extensivo improvements at tho Masterton Bowling Club's green. Tho scheme has been referred to a, special committee.
