LOCAL AND GENERAL - * Tho Twenty-seventh Infantry Reinforcements, and a portion of tho Twentyoighths, moved from Feathcrston to Trcnthaui Camp yestorday. Both tho Hon. G. W. Russell and Mr. H. G. Ell, M.P., state that tho proposal to sell the Stato Coal Mines will not be sanctioned by them (states a Press Association message from Christohurch). Mr. Russell, in reply to a question, said ho did not think thoro was the slightest chance of tho proposal receiving tho serious consideration of the Government, and Mr. Ell said that he and many other members would oppose it at every turn. Invitations arc being issued by theWellington Racing Club to a private luncheon to bo, held in the. tea kiosk at Tronthara raoocourso to celebrate tho opening of the new hospital ward which was prcsonted to Trenthßin Camp by tho club. Sir James Allen will bo present, and will perform the ceremony of opening tho ward, in tho afternoon.
