There was gnod weather for the second day of Iho Mona.wa.tu Meeting, and come fine racing .was witnessed. The tolalisatnr put through .£21,376, an aB' 1 '"/ 1 ' for (ho second day Ufil. .1 ho total (or tho meeting was as against .£46,586 for last year's meeting. With tho orception of .Ballygowa n ' all tho acceplflrs faced the barrier in tho Kai.ranga Hurdles. Jlahzoltov war. making her first, appearance, and started a good favourite, but sho failed to act in (bo going, and after being prominent for a milo she started to go back, and ivas badly beaten at, tho finish. Tatiini took ehargo two furlongs from home, and won very easily from Ijuperinp, who was kept up to the field to-day. Sir .Fisher ran a good race, 1 and secured third position, and Diavolo finished fourth affor being u-ell up the whole way. An inquiry was held into tho running of Luperino, but no action was taken. Tho Stonyhiirfit. AVelter Handicap was an excellent betting race, and the favourite was paying quite a good price. This was Shiela, who started a t few pounds better favourite than Ohiwai. There was a long delay at the barrier, but tho start, was a fair one, all except Orleans leaving well. It was a very rough race, and several of 'tho horses had their chances spoilt, notably Shiela and Sarah Grand. Settler and Black Ada made tho running to tho turn, where Antwerp camo on the outside. She and Black Ada cleared out from tho field, and Iho Hawera horse won by a length, while Sarah Grand was two lengths away. Then came Hyllus, Cherry Blossom, and Sunny Climes^ Birkenetta and Goldbearing wore tho public fancies in tho Cloverlea Hack Handicap, five furlongs. At tho*start tho two favouritesjind Wa.rmaid mado the' running from Splendidus. Entering tho strfcfelit Warmaid 'fotiged ahead, but Splendidus camo fast on tho ontsido and won nicely. Goldbearing was a poor third, and then came Birkenetta. There was a record field in tho Manawatu Stakes, eleven horses facing the starter. Bimeter looked very well, but Bisogne was on tho big side. Crowhurst; Estland, A r agabond, and Gamecock ,also saddled up well. Thero iVas a very long delay at the barrier, which prejudiced the chances of tho top weights. Tho start was . a good one, all except Warstar going off well. Estland and Crowhurst were soon in. command, and thoy led Polynesian and Bimeter down the back. Entering the straight, Estland pushed through, and Vagabond, Bimeter, and Gamccock also showed up. Estland held hi* own, and won by a length, while Gamecock was two lengths away:. BimotDr and Bisogne were the' next to finish. Panmure, whose last race it was, shaped badly, and could not act in .the going. The son of Forfarshire has proved a success on the turf, and such a well-bred and handsome horse should be well patronised at the stud. Old Dad was the only withdrawal from the Ava Hack Welter Handicap, for which Rio was better backed than the others. At the start, Johnny AValker reared up and lost a lot of ground. Rio dashed off in front, and. was not again headed. Johnny AValker etuck to his task, and caught all but Hastie, who finished second. Headache and Midnight Star were next to tho placed horses. Hendra was the eleventh-hour scratching for the Longburn 1 Handicap, for which several of tho runners were well supported. Hylatus set out to win from end to end, and a fast-run race resulted. The field was well strung out down tho back, but at tho home turn'they bunched. Beltane was the first to cut down Hylatus, and then Detroit joined in. At the distance Bjorneborg took charge, but with a fine run Multifual cut him down, and won nicely. Detroit was third, and then oamo llulticipal, Bee, and Beltane. Bjorneborg was sold after tho race to a patron of C. Morse's Gisborno stables, j Tho heaviest speculation of tho meeting took plnce in the Hapk Flying Handicap, in which a sum exceeding four figures was invested on. Raumauuwhiri, whilo Multive rivalled hor in public estimation, and several of tho othors were well supported. At tho start, Hupana showed out, but gave way on tho bond to Quinn's Post and Nobleman. Entertl,e straight, Multive dashed up, and tho field closed on him. A great raco to the post resulted in a win for tho rank outsider White Ranger, who just defeated Multive, whilo AVoodlark, who came from tho rear, was going very fast. Close up camo Nobleman and, Raumanuwhiri. Tho concluding event went to Lady Black, with Chakwana and Centre in the places. It was a great raco, and tho mare won by a length and a half.
