There waa a very lair attendance. The totalisator put through JJ18.002 as against ■£19,73] last year. reduced tho field in fho Karoje Hurdles to eight. Lnperino was a good favourite, and, with tlio exception of Mairua, tho others were evenly backed. At the start Diavolo and Sir Fisher led .Leoiita, while the favourite and Plymonth tailed off. With a mile to go Leonta pulled to the front, and was not headed again. Sir Fisher was a good second, but Tatimi was well back in third place, and the others wero beaten off. Jackman rah a good race, and will be handy in the steeplechases this senson. Plymouth failed badly, and cannot be at his best. Luperino was running on at tho finish, but ho gavo the leaders 100 much etart over t'ha first mile. In a big field for tho Maiden Plate Baghdad, who bails from Karamu, and Polynesian were the best backed, and they finished in that order. The two-year-old, who had a 51b. allowance, was early in chaise, and, attended by Warmaid, he led into tho straight. Here Polynesian ranged alongside, and Warmaid foil back. The two-year-old won by a neck from Polynesian. Headache wae a poor third, and then came White Banger. Sylvan Maid and Papanui fell, hut their riders escaped injury ; The big , handicap resulted in a fine finish. liewi Poto had most backers, but several of tho others were also heavily supported. At the start tho favourite 6wung in, and got all the best of it. Going into the straight Hcndra and Hyllus were in charge of a bunched field. At tho six .furlongs, Gang Awa. and Eewi Poto were prominent behind' tho leaders, and Cioo<l Hope was whipping tbe field. Ro\ind tho bond Gang Awa .was still in ohargc, with Hyllns, Multifual, and Kowi Poto prominent of the others. At tho distance Multaine appeared on the outside, and in a. groat finish he wore down Gang Awa. Detroit was a neck away third, and then came Multifual, Hylius, and Rewi Poto. Chakwana could not act. on tho going, and was well back the whole way. • T,he winner baa bwm vory consistent of late, and has run several good races. Noir, who was not, brought to the meeting, was tho'only scratching for the Sires' Produce Stakes. In the birdcage Estland and Vagabond stripped the best, and they wcro ovenly tacked* Next in favour "came Gamecock and Silver Tongue, who wore together in the public estimation. At. tho start Vagabond was quickest to move, but at the end of a furlong ho wag supplanted by Silvor Tongue and Eetland. Tho latter was steadied round the bend, and Silver Tongue led into the straightjrom Vagabond: Once in a line for homo. Estland came fnst anil won decisively from Vagabond, with-Silver Tongue beaten off. . Gamecock, who could not act in the going, wbs fourth, and then came Warstar and Mediator. The last-named wag a long way back. There wero only six starters in the Hack: Weltor. Tho top-weight, Hylstone, Siletius, and Captain Glossop were evenly backed. At tho start Ivamur set a. fast pace , , and was followed l>y Captain Glo&sop. At the hnlf-milo the leader compounded, and (he field bunched at the bend. Entering the straight. Captain Glossop was in charge, but Eongora then rusher! up. A great finish resulted in favour of Captain . Glossop by a head. Silemis was a. length way, and then came Kylslone. Kongora was a triflo unlucky, as sho ga.vo the field .i...big. break over the first part of , the journey. Desert Gold (looking a picture) and Bjorneborg wero both started in the' Gold Cup, and woro opposed by Beoand The Toff. The bracketed pair was a good favourite with backers. At tho elm-t Desert Gold wont off in front and was not again headed; , When it. was seen that her victory was-afMurod the cheers started, and they were renewed again and again. She won by four lengths . from Tho TolT, while Biorneborg was half a. length away third. Tho mare got a great reception from tho crowd. At the .presentation of the gold cup cheers were again given for the owner, the trainer, thn jockey, and the marc.

There, was a, bier field in tho Woodhey Huck Handicap, and tho result was a. surprise to backers. Eiuinannwhiri, Sabana, Johnny Walker, and Blue and Black wpio all heavily supported, thoro heine only a few pounds difference between them, At tho start Hupana. ivas first to show out. and led down the back from Quinn's Post and Blue- and Black.
