Vandervelde and M. i)eman, who are en route to Petrograd, interviewed the Swedish and Dutch! Socialist delegates regarding the pioposed Peace Conference at Stockholm. The tatter explained that they hoped ■ to confer successively -with delegations from the belligerent and neutral wran.tries with a view to outlining peace proposals on the lines of President Wilson's, programme, arid thereafter convening a Joint International Socialist Assembly of all countries. M. Vandervelde, who is president of the International Socialist Bureau, declared that tho Belgian Socialists could not be asso- • ciated with Socialists supporting the Imperialistic aims of the Central Powers. The Duteh and Scandinavian Committee then abandoned the scheme or a Joint Conference. Simultaneously Germauy announced its refusal to allow the German minority Socialists 10 go to Stockholm. ' Meanwhile, M. Vandervelde and M. Deraan proceed to Petrograd vrith a, view to organising a Labour and Socialist Conference of tho Entente cations in order to bring the Ruseian Soldiers' and Workmen's Counoil into . line with their Allied comrades.-»-Aus.-N.Z.
