The Commandant of the Forces, Ma* jor-General Sir Alfred Robin, has been confined to his bed for some time, and is not likely, to be able to resume active work for at least a fortnight.
Brigadier-General R. M. M'C. Anderson, of the Australian Forces, who was recently attached to the War Office, has been created a Commander of St. Michael and St. George, in recognition, of his war services.
Mr. W. H. Burgess, M.H.A.. an exTreasurer of Tasmania, died at Hobart on May 1 in his 70th year, after, a protracted illness. Hβ was in the Douglas and Agnew Ministries, and was twice Mayor of Hobart.
Mr. Charles Quaid died at Mamaku on Sunday, aged 78 years. The late Mr. Quaid arrived in Auckland in the ship Maori in 1864.
Lieutenant R. D. Boyle, who was recently wounded in is reported, to be progressing, favourably. He is now in the 2nd London General Hospital. ) News has Been received that Lieutenant Charles Tanner, an old Welling-" ton College boy, was with a. howitzer battery at the storming of the Turkish position at Sanna-i-yat, Mesopotamia, but. that in the following pursuit he contracted' fever so badly that he was six weeks in hospital, and is now just recovering. Captain Bernard Lankshear (fourth son of Mr. J. W. Lankshear, of Weiliugon), who recently returned to New Zealand invalided, is recovering from shell shock which he sustained while leading his men in the Battle of Flers, on September 15 last.
