MAGISTRATE'S COURT

' CIVIL CASES. Mr. W. Ci. Kiddell, S.M., heard' the civil ciises in the Magistrate's Court yesterday. Keserved judgment was given in the case in which the National Hat Mills, Ltd., sued 11. G. Bedel!, Ltd.. for .£49 Bs. for goods supplied to an outfitter's business at Featherston Military Camp, of which it was alleged that defendant was nominally proprietor. Judgment was given for plaintiff for the full amount claimed, with costs .C 5 7s. Mv. 0. C. Mazengarb appeared for plaintiffs, and Mr. E. M. Beechey for defendants. . A BUILDING DISPUTE. Chapman Taylor, architect and builder, for whom Mr. E. M. Beechey appeared, proceeded against Amy Barker, represented by Mr. H. V. O'Leary, to recover a balance alleged to be due on a building contract. In the statement of claim it was set out thnt the defendant employed the plaintiff, to erect a cnttago for her at Rona Bay. The building was completed in April, 1916. and the defendant paid the agreed price with the exception of .£66 16s. fid. Tho defendant alleged that there had been faulty workmanship, and counter-claimed in this respect. Mr. O'Leary said thnt the amount actually in dispute was £3 10s., the cost of certain plastering work done. Decision was reserved. UNDEFENDED CASES. Tn a judgment summons case, Bromley Hill was ordered to pay John George Shaw the sum of £83 9s. W., by May 29, in default twenty-eight days' imprisonment. AN UNUSUAL CASE. Tho case in which M'Williams and Co. (for whom Mr. A. W. Blair appeared) proceeded against Stevenson, Ferguson and Co. (represented by Mr. A. Dunn) to recover JJI2S or possession of a concrete mixer and .£2O damages was concluded yesterday. There was a counter-claim for lopairs to the machine which plaintiffs had considered excessive. .Judgment was given for tho return of tho machine and costs .£4 7s. Tho coun-ter-claim was reduced to .£l2 195., and as £7 had already been paid, judgment was given for the balance, with £i 7s. costs. POLICE BUSINESS. Mr. L'. G. Iteid, S.M., heard the police cases. Samuel At' Cool was convicted and discharged for drunkenness, and for resisting Constable M'Caul and damaging hie overcoat accused was ordered to pav the cost of the overcoat, .£2 10s., in default seven days' imprisonment. John Allen and Joseph Davies, seamen, were convicted of deserting from an oversea vessel. Allen was fined 405.,' in the alternative fourteen days' imprisonment, and Davies was fined 2fts., in default to serve seven days in gaol, and both were ordered to be placed on board the vessel.
