TO GUARD AGAINST FUTURE WARS
A PEACE UNION OF THE FREE NATIONS . (Rec. May 15, 6.20 p.m.) London, May 14. Viscount Brycc, addressing the League of Nations' Society, said that everybody feared that the war would end the' peaceful progress of mankind. Tho best remedy against this would be a combination of nations desiring peace, and pledging mutual protection and a conciliatory settlement'of disputes. General Smuts moved to submit to tho sympathetic consideration of the British peoples a proposal for a union of free nations to cultivate a permanent peace. He said that the loss and suffering from the war baffled description. Over eight million men had been killed. The nations must seriously consider the prevention of its recurrence.
