THE PERM SERVICE. A Dominion reporter, making inquiries at tho local office of the company yesterday was informed that tho position regarding tho vessel starwng in i.he ferry service was Indefinite, end they could not , say whether she would rer.ommenco running on Wednesday or Dot.
DREDGE'S EOILEB6 CONDEMNED. Mr. Douglas, surveyor of ships at Napier, arrived in Gisborne by the Arahnra. on Friday to survey the dredge John Towplny, which, bad been placed on tho Blip for that purpose. Aβ a result of the eurvey the hoilera of tho dredge have been finally condemned, and Mr. Douglas will not e.llow them to be used any longer. The new boilers for the dredge are on tho water, and may arrive within, the neit two or three months. Advantage will be taken of tho vessel being on the slip to thooughly clip, clean, and paint tho huil. and do oher repairs which wore uec«sary, and thoroughly overhaul tho vessel. She will occupy the Blip for about a month. After coming off the slip tho decks will be opened out in order to remove the old boilers. MESS-TABIiB GOSSIP. Mr. P. Hughes ioplied officially that tho cost of the ships was'2J millions, and that £4500 was paid by way of commission. The Kant, which left on Saturday for Gveymouth, and put back to Worser Bay the same day for shelter, returned to port yesterday, and ast nigit again made the attempt. She did not get out, howeverl, and again anchored in Worser Bar. She leaves for Greymouth as Boon as the weather permits.
