LOWER HUTT AFFAIRS
BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETING. Mr. If. Baldwin, Mayor, presided over last evening's meetiug of the Lower Hutt Borough Council. A giant of £20 was made towards the funds of the Taita Cemetery Board, on the condition that a similar grant is made, by the Hutt County Council ana tho Petone Borough Council. A communication was received from tb<! G.P.O. stating that the council's •request for the instalment, of a halfpenny stamp-vending machine in the borough could 'not be complied with. The Minister in charge of Police notified the council that tho question of inquiring a site for a new police station and constable's residence' was under consideration. Ilie General Manager of Railways wrote that be coiild not see bis way to change the running of the late trnin3 from Wellington from Saturday to Friday, as lie considered that the- convenience of the'majority was liest suited under fie present arrangement, The Petone Mnnicipnl Bond applied for permission to give a sacred concert in King George's Theatre on Sunday. .Tune 17.
