NATIONAL HISTORICAL COLLECTION
Among the latest gifts to the National Historical Collection is a unique map, presented by Mr. N. A. Stevens, jA Wellington. The lithograph is from the original drawing by the late Mr. George Treacey Stevens, presenting a bird's-eye view of the city of Auckland in delicate and perfect detail; At a supposed attitude of 1000 feet, .Mid from a. given point—loo feet i<i the roar of the hospital in the year 1885-G, this wonderful achievement of perspective presents every building, private or public, in its actual presentment <.f gabled roofs and windowed facade. The open spaces, the water front, and the three-shaded spaces of gardens and parks are shown so delicately and in such perfect perspective, that ifc is rot to bo wondered at that an old resident of Auckland identified his boyhood's home, and a special big treo which was the centro of a series of adventures. Little by little the treasures of the "National Historical Collection" are growing, and when time and space permit of the classification and exhibition of the material now collectinc. thn pxcellenfc work comprised in the scheme will be appreciated at its true worth.
