By Telegraph.—Prs.vs iasociation. Ghrlstctiurch, May 11. ■Wheat still comes forward slowly, and buyers say they do not know where any large lines are to bo found. Oats are firmer, A Grade Gartens being most in demand; There aro few oats offering, aud the quality of those going forward is generally very moderate, bartons are now worth 3s. 4d. to 3s. sd. at country stations. Tho potato market is weaker, as merchants are finding some difficulty in effecting sales on the basis of late values. They aro now offering £4 at country stations during May. Growers are holding out for £4 os., and only those who are anxious to sell this month are prepared to accept the lower figure, at which a number of sales have been made. The Auckland market, now being well supplied for the time being, has eased.off tho demand. Cowgrass seed is now coming forward, and is selling at lid. to 13d., according to quality. These figures are practically a record in the market.

In these days of labour scarcity, practical farmers will agree that it is' far more profitable to raise maximum crops on. a small area than to spread the same yield over a larger acreage. And yei scores of farmers are utilising the large area for the comparatively small return. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., Palmerston North, report having an exceptionally good yarding of sheep and a small entry of cattle at their Taihape sale on Wednesday. Although competition was not at all keen for lambs, grown sheop sold well, and practically all lots changed hands. Sheep: Dull lambs. 7s. Id., Bs. Id., 9s 7d.. to Us. ,10d.; medium lambs, 13s. lid., 145.. Id., to 14s. 6d. ; fair lambs, 15s.' 2d. to 15s. 6d. ; very fair lambs, 16s. to 17s. lid.; empty ewes. 19s. sd. to 20s. 8d • good woolly lambs, 245. 6d.; fat and forward ewes, 265. 9d.; mixed aged ewes in Jamb, 235. lOd. to 245.
