GERMANS RETAKE FRESNOY ADMIRALTY CHANGES ANNOUNCED GREEDY SPECULATORS . EXPOSED : The centre of the grim struggle in the West is still ■ Bnllecourt and the neighbouring positions which, invaded by the British, drove a wedge in the Hindonburg line. The Scottish troops, by a successful attack- at Bullecourt, have linked up with the Australians, who have been gallantly maintaining a most difficult position for days against heavy odds. A terrific assault by the enemy on the Fresnoy sector was successful, at heavy cost, on the left flank of the British position, and the village and wood of Fresnoy were retaken. On the right, the German attack was crumpled up, with sanguinary 'lossesr On the French front, various local engagements have resulted in a general improvement of tho French position. A German official' report indicates some activity on tho Macedonian front, in the Balkans There are no developments of importance elsewhere on tho battle fronts. At Home, Lord Devonport, fho Food Controller, has delivered a speech in the House of Lords on the present position, of tlie-foocl crisis, and incidentally exposed the greed of certain unpatriotic speculators. The operations of these gentlemen, he points out, will be less easy in future. Lord Devonport thinks that with care, and not moro than normal shipping losses from the depredations of tho U-boats, Britain will reach the new harvest with a balance in liarnlr The German- Chancellor's oft-deferred and keenly-anticipated speech on German war aims has again been postponed and publio interest has been correspondingly sharpened. Important developments aro expected. In tho meantime German peace intriguers are busy with Russia.
