ACCORDING TO OLD DOCUMENTS. The Minister of Internal Affairs has recently accepted contributions towards an historical collection which is being established as an adjunct to', the Dominion Museum. ■ _ ■ Yesterday the Minister received important gifts of documents from Mr. Hugh Morrow, of Wakefield, Nelson. He supplied to the Minister copies of certain old newspapers: 'The New Zealand Colonist," October 21, 1842; "The Wellington Independent," January 21, 1846; and the "Weekly News" Supplement, May 15, 1869. Some features in these papers are interesting. The "Weekly News," for instance, contains an account of the arrival of H.M.S. Galatea with the Duke of Edinburgh on board. Another item of present-day interest is the statement in the "Colonist" of 184S of the prices current at that time for articles in common use:— Bread was 7d. the 21b.. loaf: beef and mutton cost 9d. per lb.; butter was 3s. 3d. pet lb.;. cheese was Is. 6d. per lb.; sheep were quoted at £1 3s. ■ per lieaft, milch coirs at £20 each; eggs at 4s. per doa.; candles at 3s. 6d. per lb.; and flour at £30 per ton.
