IMPERIAL PREFERENCE
THE WAR CABINET AND THE WAR CONFERENCE, (Rcc. May 8, 5.5 p.m.) London, May 7. In reply to Mr. W. A. S. Hewins's question whether the question of preference had been taken out of the hands of the Imperial War Conference by the Imperial War Cabinet, Mr. W. H. Long (Colonial Secretary) said that the impression that the conference was not wholly satisfied with its treatmeut would be wholly incorrect. The resolution was debated in the Imperial War Cabinet, and the Dominions' representatives accorded their hearty support. It was moved by Mr. Massey (New Zealand), and carried unanimously, that the conference desire'd it to be recorded. The reason why he did not speak lengthily on tho resolution was that the question had already been fully debated by the War Cabinet.
Mr. Long added: "Any suggestion that the Imperial War Cabinet could take the matter from tho bands of the conference would show an imperfect appreciation of the powers of the conference, and would be warmly resented by the Dominions."—E-enter',
