THE COAL TROUBLE
CONFERENCE TO-MORROW. ■• TMe ■ conference between coal-mine owners-.and representatives of the miners' unions will meet in Wellington to-morrow. The last, meeting of a similar kind held here recently was a long business, but it is not considered likely ' that this conference will be long drawn out. All details were fully discussed when the parties met a few weeks ago, v and it should nqtbe necessary to cover the ground again. It appears now that a demand for the release of O'Rourke to enable him to attend the conference was made to the Defence Minister when he was in the southeast week, but Sir James 'Allen replied that he could not interfere... It'is now reported tlvrt the Blackball men have passed a resolution to the effect that if O'Rourke is not released they will down tools, but there is no confirmation of the report. In any case, O'Rourke is not going to be released. Moreover, if the Blackball ! men or any other men call' a strike there will, it is stated, be no conference. ,
