' The case of Thomas A. Bentlcy (Dar-gaville),-who was.given time in which to-consider (signing tho declaration as to the service of a religious objector, came before the First Auckland Board on Monday.. Bentloy asked' leave to read a statement, which was to the effect that being a member of the Society of Friends ho could not undertake to accept the offer made him, as it was contrary to his convictions to undertake any service with which the military authorities were connected. He therefore declined to sign the prescribed form, and thanked the board for its consideration of his .appeal. The chairman said tho board had given him his choice, and as he now refused to accept the official position,-his appeal would bo dismissed. Beutley was taken away to undergo medical .examination.
