POTATO GROWING
THE SUB-COMMITTEE MEETS,
The sub-committee set up to consider details connected with the scheme promoted by the Mayor for the planting of gardens, and possibly plots of un.•used 'land, with potatoes, in order to fJvttrcase the home-grown food supply !of the city in war time, met in the Room last night. The Mayor and in addition to the members of the committee there were present four expert gardeners who had -been invited to attend to help the com(mittee with their advice. These gentlemen were Messrs. Waugh, Tilbury, iWestbury; and Ball. The names of Sthese experts were added to the comimittee list, and henceforth, they are jfco be permanent members of the comtaittee. ■■',•'■ A resolution fras agreed to by the Bub-committee calling upon householders who have plots of land suitable and available for the growing of potatoes .to intimate to the committee that they will adopt the suggestion made by the Mayor, and fall in with the scheme. It was decided that the four garHeners who are now associated with the committee bo given the special duty of advising as to the suitability of plots that may be offered by householders, and as to the choice of seed potatoes.
The Mayor, accompanied by the experts of the committee, will make, a •visit to the Miramar Flat on x Wednesday and to such other places in the city or the near vicinity as may be deemed advisable, and they will report! to the general committee on Thursday as to the suitability of these places for the bigger scheme suggested of planting a Jarger area:
