THE PEACE THE ALLIES WANT
FRENCH MINISTERS SPEAK (Roc. May 6, 5.5 p.m.) Paris, May 5. At the Allied Conference M. Clemen- ■ tel (Minister for Commerce), is welcoming the Anglo-Italian delegates, said "the war, has united us for a common safeguard. It was a war for a poaco which will guarantee, us again any return to the primeval ferocity, and instead of the former precarious peace of the world lining under perpetual threats." Ho paid a tribute to the way England tackled and solved all problems of the war. "America's intervention in the decisive hour brings, like a thunderbolt, a contribution of.cold iron and blood. Wo fight to the end on the battlefield and the economic field." M. Ribot, Prouder, said "it no longer remains with the Germans to initiate an attack, despite the fact that the enemy is calling ap all bis reserves. They are doubling up under our grip. America's entry gives certainty of ultimate victory, and Germany feels this to bo so. "Wo truly desire, peace as much as anyone, but we do not desire a peace which will leave > untouched the problems wherefrom the war sprang, and which the war must solve. We have not stoically accepted so many sacrifices merely in order that our children should be compelled to.struggle again to-morrow. We don't dream of oppressing any people, not even our present enemies. After the war wo shall not summon revenge to our aid, but justice, pure and simple."—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
