LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Sir, —I notice a paragraph in your paper of April 30 referring to the Expeditionary Forces reserve", in which it is stated that all reservists should now have their certificates of enrolment, and that if they have not already received the certificates that it is their own fault. Now, Sir, I must beg to differ from you there, and, in proof, will give you my own experience. I received tho usual card, telling me that my application for a certificate of enrolment had been received, on September 16 or 17. About a- month after that I left the district I was then in, and. in accordance with the Military Service Act, duly gave notice of change of address. I got, no acknowledgment of that. Then I was drawn in the first ballot, still as if I were at my old address. After some correspondence, I managed to arrango to appear at Masterton for medical examination, etc., and failed to come up to the necessary standard, receiving a pass for leave of absence until further orders, without pay. Then, in March, I had forwarded to me from Golyton, my old address, a form notifying me that tho certificate had been posted to the postmaster at Colyton, where I would get it on applying in person and signing for it. Immediately after receiving that notice I wrote to the Government ■Statisall the facts of tho case before him, and asking him to have the certificate of enrolment sent to me at my present address. That letter was posted on March 12, and so far I have received no acknowledgment' of its arrival in Wellington,- nor any more word of my certificate. Now, do you think it is my fault that I have no certificate yet? Am Itogo to Colyton for it, a two days' journey both ways, from here, losing four days' work? whereas if the. thing had been sent to my correct address I could go and get it,' and be back home in less than three j hours. 1 Two others I know of have not even j got notice yet to call at their -post ofI ficc for their certificates. ■ Is it their j fault that they hare not got them jet? ' Hoping you can spare enough of your S valuable space to publish this,—l am, JAMES H. FRAZER, Pirinoa, May 2.
