SCHEME TO CREATE GIGANTIC WSy

(Rec. May 1, 10.30 p.m.)

The Hague, May 1

Herr Aehelis has resigned'the presidency of the Norddeutcher Lloyd Company, disagreeing with the other directors regarding the Government's compensation for ships confiscated in America. The Government, ho said, had offered a total of £15,000,000, of which £5,000,000 was allotted to the Norddoutscher Company. Herr Achelis demanded £10,000,000. ' It is believed that the company will now join the Hamburg-Amorika Line, under Herr Ballin, with a view to the completion of a huge Austro-German shipping trust. _ Mr. Achelis opposes the amalgamation, which the Kaiser is insti-gating.—Aus.-N.Z.
