THE SEVENTH BALLOT
DRAWING BEGUN -YESTERDAY. Tho drawing of the seventh ballot jfimong members of the First Division jof the Expeditionary Forco Reserve Itvas begun yesterday,' and- probably will be completed this evening. The 'Defence authorities require 1706 reteruits for the Thirty-first Reinforcements, and theinimber of names to be 'drawn is 8530, fivo for each vacancy in tho' draft. This proportion probably is Tather higher than is actually necessary* for the completion of the, Reinforcements, but there is an existing shortage in the training camps to be covered, and experience has shown that a substantial margin must be allowed for, exemptions and suspensions, . as [well • as for medical rejections. ' .' The ballot is boing drawn under the Supervision of Mr. S. E. M'Carthy, B.M. Tho Mayor of Wellington. (Mr. 'J. P. Luke) and a representative of the Wellington Trades and Labour Council were present yesterday to ;watch tho proceedings on behalf of the public.
