ARREST OF P. C. WEBB, M.P.
ALLEGED SEDITIOUS UTTER- ;. . , ANCES. The Wellington Police arrested yesterday P. C. Webb, member of Parliament for the constituency of Grey, on-two charges of having/uttered seditiqua matter. The proceedings are being taken under the War Regulations !Act, which prescribes maximum penalties on summary conviction before a Magistrate, of imprisonment for a period not exceeding twelve months, or a fine not exceeding £100. Webb is arrested in reßpect of two speeches made by him, ono of -them at Greymouth in his own electorate during the municipal election campaign. Portions of both of these speeches are alleged to be seditious within the definition as contained in War Regulations. ' Webb was taken south in custody on the ferry steamer last night.
