ASSOCIATION

TBENTHAM.V. Y.M.C.A, AlthougE the Association football season does not open until Saturday next a special match, the first this season, was played between Trentham and Y.M.O.A. at Wakofield Park on Saturday, and taking into consideration that this was probably the firet time the Tronthani team had even gone on a field together, and that the Y.M.C.A. team have had no practice since, last season, some- very good play was witnessed. The weather was ideal, beijie chilly enough to keep the players, on the move, and the- ground, which is in splendid condition, was damp, but hard. Y.M.C.A., who had the wind against them, kept the '.ball in their opponents' half right up till half time, and wore only driven away once or twice. .At half-time each side had. scored • one, the ' Y.M.C.A. goal being kicked by Ballard (centre forward), and the Trentham goal by Nimmo (centre forward). In the second half Y.M.O.A. had a good wind behind them, but only got two goals. This was accounted for by. the excellent work -of the Trentham goal-keeper,, who stopped fihot after shot. The goals in the second half were, scored by Galloway and Ballard. Some noticeably good footwork was done by Ballard, the Y.M.C.A,.* centre forward. Quartermaster Gallon, an Auckland man, wse the referee.
