SCHOOL COMMITTEE ELECTION

TO BE HELD TO-NIGHT THE WORK OF THE YEAR. The annual elections of school committees will be held to-night.- ' SOUTH WELLINGTON. There will be do election of a committee for the South Wellington School, as the nominations do not exceed the> number required. They are as under: —Messrs. G. Startup, E. Upchiiroh, T. Morton, W. Harris, W. Read, T. ,Mollison, B. Cooper, L. Brewer, and ff. Twort. PETtfNE DISTRICT HICH SCHOOL'.. The annual report of the Peione District High School shows that receipts totalled £192, and expenditure £i 59, leaving a. credit balance of £33. - lie report states that at the recent departmental- and University examinaations the following passes were obtained:—Senior scholarships, 2; Public Service entrance, 6; senior.free passes, 10; matriculation, 2; proficiency, certificates.: 44; competency 18; making 62 pa6s«s* out of 65. The attendance certificatestotalled 197. The roll on March 31, 1917, stood at 755 primary and 62 secondary. ■ The percentage of attendancewas 91 per cent, primary and 95.8 secondary.- The report also contains reference to the good work dune byMr. Foster, late headmaster of the school, and deals with Departmental matters affecting the school. The following nominations have been received; ■for the committee of the school:— J. J. Abrahall, F. Beard, J. F. Bowles, R..1. A. Campbell, W. E. Forsyth, H. R-Kirk,-A. G. Leavey, D. M'Callum, D. M'Kenzie, F. L. Matthews, 0. Silbery, and J. W. Wright.

PORIRUA. : The annual report of. the Poririia! School Committee states that on Anzao Day, 1916, a collection of gifts vsa made by the children to the value'."of £4 Is. 7d. These were forwarded to. the Countess of Liverpool Fund for Soldiers at the front. It is pleasing to note that acknowledgments ._ hay* been received from soldiers' fighting in. Palestine. On July 14, £6 was collected for the Belgian Relief Fund, and produce was also collected to the value or £13 10s., and sent to the Town Hall for sale. The report stated that as the result of the annual concert the amount of £15'7s. 4<3. was forwarded for Belgian relief. All candidates for proficienoy certificates from the school were successful. ! The school football team succeeded ill winning the Wellington school championship. The average rramber of pupils on the.roll for the year was 109, and the average attendance 99. The committee thank parents for 'the continued good attend-' anct, and express the hope that the incoming committee will contirrae the work of improving the school and grounds, particularly in regard to sanitation, thereby ensuring increased ■comfort for pupils attending the school.
