GUATEMALA BREAKS WITH GERMANY

[According to offioial data, the Central American • Republic of Guatemala is not financially strong, her interest coupons being 14 years in arrears in 1912, when the British Government was requested to take some action in the matter. An arrangement was then made under which the republic agreed to pay up. Mobilised, the army of the republic numbers 85,535 officers and men. The reserve army consists of 40,575 men, in 81 battalions. The basis of service is conscription. The rupture with Germany will probably be more annoying to the German concessionaries and other business interests there than to von Hindenburg.] (Rec.
