FEDERAL ELECTION BATTLE

BICKERINGS IN THE LABOUR CAMP WOMEN'S ANTI-LIQUOR MOVEMENT Sydney, April 27. Both sides are putting all their strength into the Federal election campaign, the main issues of which . are largely swamped by tho bickerings of tho now divided Labourites and the at- ! tempts of one side to reincarnate and the other to effectually lay the conscription ghost. The P.L.L. advocates insist that once the elections are over the country' will he forced to another conscription referendum, and the Liberals as loudly disclaim any such intention. Both sides, however, are up against one solid trouble—the women's movement, which is in full swing in the shape of a, chain letter binding the recipient to write or wire to their district to pledge themselves to pass anti-shouting legislation. Also to call public meetings and otherwise stir up things for tho same object. Each recipient is asked to pass the letter on to' threo other women.' The postmen are already feeling the weight of the chain.—Press Assn.

THE SOLDIERS' TOTE. London, April 26. Polling for the Federal elections begins at Salisbury Plain about May 1 oi 2.' Voting on the Queensland referendum for the abolition of the Legislative Council will not be taken with the Federal poll, although the Commonwealth military authorities are willing to Lolp tho Queensland authorities as far as their powers permit.
