ALTERATIONS TO THE WAYERLEY. Besides undergoing annual overhaul, and having her forecastle-head raised, as was previously mentioned,- the Waverley is having other alterations effected. The raised forecastle head, will ;bo to aocommottate a large water-tank, and together wu'-i tnc smaller this vnU result in the Waverley drawing altogether mx inches less, and will bo of material benefit to the vessel in the Patea. trade where sno lias to wait for the tido to get up tho river. CALM DELAYED. Mr. E. G. F. Zohrab advises that tho Calm has heen delayed in Onehunga. The cause is tho shortage of labour at that port, and as the Kahika, which arrived there on Thursday is to ho worked first, tne Oalm cannot get away until Tuesday next, and will not reach Wellington until Thursday. According to present arrangements she will leave the same day for Lyttelton. Dunedin,- and Bluff, but this depends on the time of her arrival. MESS-TABLE GOSSIP. Captain W. M. Muir, who had been on leave for about two months, has resumed command of the Ngakuta, and Captain P. J. Dowell, Tvho had been relieving him has resumed the position of chief officer of the Ngahero. ... Mr. R. K. Duckworth, formerly purser of tho Mararoa, has gone to Dunedin for orders. Mr. P. N. Coull has taken his place on the Mararoa. Mr. S. H. Hurray, fourth engineer of the Ngakuta, has come ashore, and Mr. W. F. Mulgon has'joined tho vessel as chief engineer. Mr. It. J. M'Conville, chief engineer of tho Kaituna, has come ashore, and Mr. T. Rutter has joined tho vessel.
Tho Queen of tho South is still undergoing overhaul, and it ia not expected that she will he ablo to lcavo for Foxton for another ten days or a fortnight. Tho Koutunui may get hero to-day I from tho East Coast, but no word has so far been received from her, and she is not expected hero till to-morrow on -Monday. After loading coal here, tho vessel is to lcavo for Picton, whero she is to load chaff for tho bays north of Gisbrnc. Tho Awahou is duo to-day from.Foxton. Thero is a possibility that tho vessel will lcavo on Monday for Greymouth. Tho next boat for the West Coast, will ho tho Kennedy, which is duo on Tuesday from Nelson, and Will sail again tho same day. , _ . Tho Hawera is duo to-day from Patea. Sho is to sail again on Monday, for Patea. Tho Hinemoa worked Nuggst Point yesterday, and was to havo left last night for Waipapapa Point and Bluff. As it is usually very difficult to effect a landing at Waipapapa Point, the vessel may bo delayed between thero and Bluff lor some Tho Kaituna is to leave hero at noon to-day for Westport. Her future movements are indefinite, but sho may load back to Wellington. lr -^j„^ The Kowhai is duo hero on Monday morning from Dunedin and Timaru, and is to sail on Monday for Westport. Grey- . mouth, and Hokitika. . It is not expected that the Maori will recommence running in the ferry service until the end of next week at the earliest. The Ngahore i« expected to load at Greymouth to-day for Wellington, and is due on Monday. . , . . , , The Ngakuta is to leave to-day lor Greymouth, at -which port, sho loads on Tuesday for Wellington, feho should get back on Wednesday or Thursday.
