THE ELECTIONS

MAYOR GRATIFIED

TRIBUTE TO MR. T. BUSH

Referring to the results 'of Wednesday's City Council election, the Mavor (Mr. J. l>. Luke) expressed himself"to a Dominion reporter yesterday as behi" highly gratified with the citizens' choice" '1 take it," said Mr. Luke, "that is endorse.? tJie work of the council during the past two years. It j s giatifyin" to see that the whole of the old coimcll who stood again, with one exception," havo been returned, as it can only be interpreted as the public's approval of the work that has been done duMn« their past period of office. The excep" tioii mentioned is Councillor Thomas Bush, whom I regret was not returned, and who was, in my humble opiiion, a, very valuable member of the council, ivho carried out ungrudgingly and with alacrity the duties he was called upon to perform as a. councillor. Tho opinion of the public was what they all had to aocept, and on this occasion he thought that the latest council they hafl returned was a sound one, and/every individual member of it would, he was sure, bring to boar upon the affairs of.the city al the ability and capacity for work they possessed, so that when affairs gener-' ally were normal again they would be ready to advance the interests, of the ctty on the most progressive lines. Re-oount Proceeding. The whole of the figures in connection with tho three elections ' held! on Wednesday were gone over again by Mr. James Ames, jun. (the assistant of the chief, returning officer), as the result of whioh it is not necessary to make any correction in the figures published yesterday morning, which is a tribute to Mr: Ames's accuracy. •Before the result of the council. Mr. Ames anticipates that it will take at least ten days more-rprobably a fortnight. Harbour Board Chairmanship.
