A COAL CENSUS

STOCKS TO BE REPORTED. New regulations under the Census and Statistics Act provide for the taking of a census of stocks of coal held in New Zealand. They state that every owner of premises where coal is usually or at April 30, 1917, held in stocks of five tons or over, whother for use on the premises or for sale shall, on request aud within such time or times as he may be required by the Statistician so to do, furnish particulars as to such stocks held on such premises en, a. date or dates to be specified by the Statistician. In' order to comply with the regulation the owner of the premises shall fill in and supply to the Statistician or to any officer authorised by him in writing the particulars specified-in a special form. "Owner" includes ' the manager or other person for the time being-in charge of any , such premises. '•.
